Damian King takes out 2012 IBA Box Pro Trials

The 2012 IBA Box Pro Trials were taken out by 2x World Champion Damien King today, in 3-4 foot waves at Gas Bay.

With eight spots available to trialists in the IBA Box Pro main event, riders had to fight their way into the semi-finals to secure their place in the 32 man draw along side the top 24 GSS Riders and Wildcards.

Todays trials also doubled up as an Australian Tour event, allowing King to earn himself a valuable 2000 points for the IBAA (International Bodyboarding Association Australasia) local tour event win in addition to 1000 points for the trials win, both kickstarting his campaign for a 2013 IBA GSS Tour qualification.

The eight riders who qualified for the 2012 IBA Box Pro are:

3. Lewy Finnegan (AUS)
4. Jacob Romero (HAW)
5. Joe Clarke (AUS)
6. Le Szszkepanski (AUS)
7. Ruyman Rey (CNY)

With offshore winds for most of the day and clean Southwest swell predicted to show in the 6+ foot region at the Box tomorrow, Event Organizers are looking at a 6:30 am (Perth) check in and a 7am start. The event will kick off with a new format, featuring a "Non Elimination Round 1", rewarding first and second placing athletes with a seed directly in to Round 3 and forcing 3rd and 4th in each Round 1 heat into the "Sudden Death Round 2" where 3rd and 4th place finishers will be eliminated from the event and walk away with a 25th and 29th place respectively.
