(Gunnamatta, VIC - Tuesday February 15, 2012): The VicRoads Surf with the Boys Tour Presented by Play it Safe by the Water, Metricon and Global Surf Industries has hit the road again starting at Gunnamatta on the Mornington Peninsula.
With great 3ft waves on offer, all of the boys were itching to get out there and surf with professional surfers Adam Robertson and Phil McDonald.
A joint initiative between Surfing Victoria, VicRoads and Play it Safe by the Water, the program aims to develop male surfer's water skills and knowledge of road safety.
The boys went through a beach warn up before talking about the dangers of being in the water and on the road. Everyone then got the chance to get in the water and learn some tips off both Adam and Phil.
Robertson was stoked with the boys in the water.
"It was hard work out there, there was a lot of water moving around but all of the kids had a crack and got some great waves.
This program is a great opportunity for the boys to progress their surfing and also learn about how to be safe on the road and in the water"
All participants received a heap of prizes on the day and had the opportunity to try out some of the Global Surf Industries Surfboard range.
The tour now moves to Sandy Point at Wilsons Prom.
About VicRoads:
VicRoads purpose is to deliver social, economic and environmental benefits to communities throughout Victoria by managing the Victorian arterial road network and its use as an integral part of the overall transport system.
Vic Roads is aiming to get across 4 key messages through the program.
- Make sure you get your 120 hours of practise driving when you are learning to drive. Experience makes you a better and safer driver.
- Don't text or talk on your mobile when you're driving.
- Assess the road conditions just as you would when you want to go for a surf and drive within the limitations of your experience as well as current conditions on the road.
- Respect on the road is important, just like respecting the ocean and your mates.
