What level surfer do I need to be?
Adult Surf Camps cater for novice, intermediate and advanced surfers. If you are a beginner surfer, we recommend contacting your nearest Surfing Australia Affiliated Surf School to see what programs they have available.
Which camp is most suitable for me?
Each of our camps have been designed for the specific ability levels listed below.
If you are unsure where you fit in these 3 levels, please contact our team on (02) 6671 0000.
Novice surfers have progressed from riding whitewater waves to paddling out the back and catching unbroken waves. They are still mastering the fundamentals of effective paddling, wave selection, positioning and generating their own speed.
Intermediate surfers are consistently catching and riding waves without any assistance. They can comfortably paddle out to the back in 2-3ft surf, trim down the line, and have started to execute basic manoeuvres (cutbacks, carves, floaters) with some success.
Advanced surfers can perform a wide range of manoeuvres and they’re confident with powerful surf conditions in the 4-6ft range. They are looking to surf with more speed, power and flow, work on their barrel riding and start attempting aerials.
Where will we surf?
Our coaches will always try to find the most suitable waves for coaching on the Tweed Coast which has plenty of options for different wind and swell directions.
Sessions generally run at Casuarina, Cabarita, Kingscliff or Hastings Point but we can also access Duranbah, Snapper Rocks and Kirra.
What happens if there's no surf?
If we’re not confident that conditions will allow us to get coaching outcomes, you will receive a full credit to reschedule for another camp within the next 12 months.
Do I need to bring a board?
We strongly recommend bringing at least 1 board so your coach can review what you normally ride and we cannot always guarantee there will be a suitable board in our demo centre.
You will also have full access to our Surfboard Empire Demo Centre which has 50 boards from Lost, Pyzel, LSD, Cabianca and Rusty but please note that these boards only got up to 6’4 and approximately 40L.
How many surfers will be on the camp?
We work around a coach-to-surfer ratio of 1:4 on novice and intermediate camps and 1:5 on advanced camps.
- Novice camps: Max 12 surfers with 3 coaches
- Intermediate camps: Max 12 surfers with 3 coaches
- Advanced camps: Max 10 surfers with 2 coaches and 1 jet ski driver
What is the best time of year to come?
The Tweed Coast offers great surf conditions year round but we find February to August the most consistent.
Do you offer airport transfers?
Yes. We can arrange transfers from Gold Coast and Ballina. Gold Coast transfers are $80 each way and Ballina transfers are $165 each way. Contact us to confirm pricing if you are travelling as a group.
Can I arrive the night before the camp?
Yes. We encourage surfers travelling from interstate to arrive the night before so you can be ready for an 9am start on the first morning of the camp.
You can also book an additional night after the camp if it’s more convenient for you to travel the next day.
What flights should I book?
The Gold Coast Airport is the closest airport – 15 minutes north of the centre.
Check-in is available from 3pm and we arrange an after-hours key collection for late arrivals.
Camps finish at 2pm on the last day so departing flights from 3.30pm (NSW time) onwards are recommended.
Will I get my own room or is it shared accommodation?
Yes. Our premium accommodation rooms are single share with a queen bed and private ensuite bathroom. Twin share is available on requests for couple or friends who are doing the camp together.
I don't need accommodation, can I just come and go each day?
Yes. Simply deselect the accommodation option at the checkout stage – the camp price will update accordingly.
