Surfing Australia has today announced Wollongong, NSW, as the new location for the 2025 Australian Junior Surfing Titles.
Originally scheduled for South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula in late November, the decision to relocate has been made early due to the unpredictability of conditions associated with the algal bloom.
While two thirds of South Australia’s coastline is currently unaffected by the algal bloom – including the southern part of the Fleurieu where the competition was due to be held – difficulty forecasting conditions in coming months may impact planning for the event.
Public health advice for beach goers and the surfing community remains that it is safe to swim where the water is clear and not foamy.
Surfing Australia and the South Australian Tourism Commission are in talks about rescheduling the event to the Fleurieu in 2026.

This elite event brings together over 250 of the nation’s most talented junior surfers and is the final major counting event on the Surfing Australia National Junior Series, valued at 12000 rankings points. The male and female champions in the U16 and U18 divisions will earn the honour of joining the Australian National Surfing Team, The Irukandjis, at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in 2026, making this event the pinnacle of the Junior surfing pathway in Australia.
About the Australian Junior Surfing Titles:
The Australian Junior Surfing Titles encompass individual divisions for U14 – U18 junior men and women and a school surfing division for U16 – U19 junior men and women.
Champions in U16 and U18 men and women earn a spot on The Irukandjis team to represent Australia at the 2026 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.
