APPLICATIONS OPEN: BOYS NATIONAL JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Published on 16/02/2026

Applications are now open for the 2026 Boys National Junior Development Squad.

Aimed at identifying the next generation of Australian male surfing talent, and to provide them with early exposure to the high performance surfing environment.

The program will select eight high-potential males aged 12–16 (pre-emerging) to attend two National Development Camps, starting with the first camp from 24–27 March 2026 at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre. Selected athletes will experience a national high-performance environment, including peer-to-peer learning, technical and tactical coaching, physical preparation support, and performance mindset development. All camp costs will be funded by the Surfing Australia High Performance Program, with athletes responsible for travel.

Surfing Australia Head of Pathway Programs, Luke MacDonald, said:

“I’m genuinely excited to launch this program. It gives the next generation of talented Aussie boys early exposure to the standards, behaviours and support systems that sit within our high performance surfing environment. Through technical feedback, performance support education and learning alongside their peers, they’ll gain a clearer understanding of what it takes to progress along the pathway and pursue excellence in our sport.”

Talent Pathway Coach Peter Duncan added:

“With the recent dominance of Australian surfing on the world stage, it’s an exciting time for the sport. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the next generation of boys are doing and providing them with the opportunity to step into a high performance surfing environment and continue building that legacy.”

Applications open Monday 16 February 2026 and close Wednesday 4 March 2026 at 5pm AEDT. For more information, visit Surfing Australia’s website.
