Cronulla’s Jarvis Earle Wins World Junior Title

Published on 16/01/2023

A massive congratulations to our new Junior World Champion, Jarvis Earle.

The goofy footer from Cronulla, NSW scored a near perfect 9.5 in the final against Levi Slawson (USA) to take out the world title and a spot on the 2023 Challenger Series.

Held at Seaside Reef in San Diego the conditions could not have been better. It was pumping, the event window coinciding with some of the biggest swells California has received in years. The 6 to 8, occasional ten-foot and bigger sets challenging the competitors.

Jarvis told the WSL: “This was such an insane competition, and everyone was ripping, so to win it means a lot, and it doesn’t even feel real right now. The opportunity to get a spot into the Challenger Series was definitely a big reason for coming to this event. I’ve been going pretty good on the regional QS, and now I’ve got that spot, so that I couldn’t be more happy. Levi was ripping all event, and I knew that’d be a good Final, so I just stuck to what I’d been doing today.”

The 18-year-old also unleashed the event’s highest single-scoring wave of a 9.93 in the Quarterfinals against fellow Aussie Oscar Berry.

A great effort too from Sierra Kerr who surfed incredibly well, making it through to the Semifinals finishing third overall.
