GREATER PORT MACQUARIE WELCOMES THE AUSTRALIAN SURF CHAMPIONSHIPS

Published on 14/05/2021

The 2021 Australian Surf Championships are set to take place on the dreamy beaches of the Greater Port Macquarie region beginning on the August 7th, 2021.

NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said the Government was proud to support the Australian Surf Championships.

“It’s great to have this iconic surf event return to our shores, and what better spot to host the Championships than in beautiful Port Macquarie.

“The NSW Government recognises the importance of keeping tourism and events in our regions – they create jobs, drive investment into local communities and help to keep our economy thriving.

“We look forward to welcoming competitors and their families to Port Macquarie this August for another standout event and showcasing the spectacular mid-north coast of NSW,” Mr Ayres said.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Mayor Peta Pinson is throwing her support behind this major tourism drawcard for the region.

“With our picturesque beaches, idyllic climate, and a great deal of enthusiastic surfers in our community, I’m excited to have this event on our shores, adding to the growing line-up of major events in our region.

“It’s events like this that showcase why our region is such a great destination. Our beaches are a major drawcard, bringing in the visitors, who then go on to explore all of the great offerings scattered throughout our home.

“I’m looking forward to the action-packed festival and wish all of the competitors and visitors a warm welcome to the Port Macquarie-Hastings,” said Mayor Pinson.

With renowned surf hot spots ranging from Town Beach to North Haven, the new location is expected to provide weeks of pumping conditions over the course of the 17-day competition.

Surfing Australia CEO Chris Mater said: “Surfing Australia is stoked to be able to run the  Australian Surf Championships in conjunction with Surfing New South Wales, in such an epic wave-rich location as Port Macquarie. We can’t wait to watch Australia’s best surfers perform at the many great locations the region will provide.”

The 2021 Australian Championships will kick off on the 7th of August and will run until the 23rd of August 2021. All specific discipline dates can be seen below.
