New expanded format for Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle Grand Final

Published on 22/11/2023

Due to huge demand across all eight Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle (ABB) regional qualifiers, with 79 clubs competing across the nation, Surfing Australia is excited to announce an expansion to the Grand Final format. There are now 10 extra wildcards up for grabs, taking the total number of boardrider clubs set to compete to 42 (up from 32).

Surfing Australia CEO, Chris Mater said it’ll be the biggest field in the event’s 11-year history.

“We’ve seen more entries than ever before in the Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle qualifying series. As a result, we decided to expand the Grand Final format, allowing more clubs to compete, further cementing our status as the world’s biggest grassroots boardriders event.

“There has always been a long list of amazing surfers competing in the final and this year we’re expecting even more stars to turn out. So, if you’re a boardrider club, get your wildcard application in now and you could be heading to the iconic Burleigh Heads in Queensland to take on the country’s best at the Grand Final.”

Wildcard applications will now close a week later on Sunday, 3rd of December, with announcements to be made on Thursday, 7th of December.
