PARIS 2024: Robinson wins all-Aussie matchup

Published on 02/08/2024

Jack Robinson is eyeing off an Olympic medal, after defeating Ethan Ewing in a stunning all-Australian surfing quarterfinal.

Despite seeing his 2024 Olympic dreams come to an end, it was Ewing who earned the heat’s top single wave score (and highest wave score of the day), an 8.33. Ewing managed a tight top turn set critically in the pocket before pulling into a long tude, exiting, and then carving powerfully down the face to end his ride. But he couldn’t back it up and finished with a total heat score of 13.00.

With his highest two scoring waves earning him an 8.0 and a 7.33, Robinson won the match and will surf in the semifinals against Brazil’s Gabriel Medina when the men’s action resumes in two days.

Tyler Wright wasn’t so lucky, joining Ewing in a quarterfinal exit after falling to reigning world champion Caroline Marks (USA).
