Published on 13/10/2021

CASUARINA/NSW (August 13th, 2021): The 2021 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Series heads to Day Street, Middleton Beach this weekend with a great looking forecast of 3-4ft waves and light to moderate winds.

Surfing South Australia CEO Craig Potgieter said: ” We are stoked to be able to run the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps in South Australia this weekend. The event has become a favourite on our event calendar with the groms always looking forward to competing.”

Defending Champions Maia Taite (pictured above), King Cairns and Noah Keelan will go into the Under 14 boys and girls divisions as favourites.

The event series will cover the country across ten events culminating in an epic National Final at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC) across the weekend of December 17th through 19th.

Approximately eighty competitors are expected to enter each stop in the series (with approximately fifty competitors expected in South Australia and Tasmania), which will see some of the nation’s future champions competing for top honours.

Regarded as one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia over summer.

As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Final Surf Camp, (1-day coaching clinic, 2 days of competition and heat analysis coaching) at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC).

For the South Australian, Victorian and Tasmanian events, the Woolworths Surf Camp prize will be awarded to the highest place Under-14 Boy and Girl who reside in that respective State.

Each division of the 2021 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps has been added to the 2021 Surfing Australia National Junior Rankings with each event rated at 5500pts for first place with points descending respectively. A result at this event will contribute to a competitor’s overall National Junior Ranking.
