Surfing Australia gives back with Zambrero partnership

Published on 20/10/2022

A team of Surfing Australia employees headed north to Brisbane this week to take part in Zambrero’s annual Plate 4 Plate day.

About 120 volunteers swapped their business suits and uniforms for a bandana and gloves to join the production line, making up packs that contained rice, soy, lentils and a vitamin sachet.

Each pack is enough to make six meals.

Surfing Australia CEO, Chris Mater said: “We’re thrilled to get behind such an important cause and support Zambrero’s ultimate goal to help end world hunger.”

Nick Sculthorpe, Zambrero National Training Executive said it was a huge success.

“These meals will go to schools, where kids can get an education and hopefully pull themselves and their family out of the poverty line. We keep them bland so that when they reach the local villages they add their local spices so the kids can enjoy it a little more.”

The Queensland hub was one of six sites set up across Australia.

So far, Zambrero has donated over 60 million meals, with an ambitious goal to get to one billion by 2025.

All meals packed on Plate 4 Plate Day this year will be sent to Timor Leste.

You can help too. For every burrito or bowl purchased in a Zambrero store, a meal is donated to someone in need.
