Some of the nation’s best young surfers have descended on Phillip Island, Victoria for the Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles.
More than 250 surfers are set to compete over eight days, with an opening ceremony scheduled for Saturday, and the competition running from Sunday through to the 3rd of December.
The Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles are the final major counting event on the National Junior Junior Rankings, awarding 10,000 points to every age division winner.
Surfing Victoria CEO, Adam Robertson said: “The Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles is one of the most highly anticipated events on the Surfing Australia calendar, providing junior surfers with valuable rankings points in their quest for a spot in the Irukandjis team for the 2024 ISA World Junior Surfing Titles.
“This event hosts the best upcoming talent for Australia, so I expect to see some great surfing, and to see names in the draw that will take on the world with their talent whether that be on the WSL World Tour or fighting for a gold medal at future Olympics.”
Every winner will also join a prestigious honour roll with world champions such as Steph Gilmore, Chelsea Hedges, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Mark Richards and Tom Carroll.
The primary location for the event is Cape Woolamai, with backup locations across the region, including Penguin Parade, Smiths Beach, Right Point and Surfies Point.
Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Le Serve said: “We’re thrilled to be continuing our strong partnership with Surfing Australia and yet again sponsoring this wonderful event here again which showcases our amazing world-class surf coasts and our broader region. We are delighted to welcome the top junior surfers and their families from all over Australia to our magnificent Island. Phillip Island is the only national surfing reserve in Victoria and we are just honoured to have such increasing amounts of events and surfers choosing our beaches to surf on.”
In an exciting new media partnership, KommunityTV will live stream the final two days of the contest.
Surfing Australia Head of Production, Media and Owned Channels, Chris Smith said: “This collaboration marks a significant milestone in bringing the excitement and spirit of junior surfing to a wider audience. Partnering with Kommunity.tv, a platform known for its exceptional coverage of grassroots sports will not only showcase the incredible skill of Australia’s best junior surfers but also amplify their inspiring stories, connecting them with the broader community.”
