Woolworths Junior Surfing Titles to kick off new year at Gunnamatta

The opening round of the 2021 Woolworths Junior Surfing Titles is set to kick off the new year at Gunnamatta this Thursday and Friday.

Bringing together the cream of Victorian Junior surfing, the event is the first stop of a three part series that will crown state champions across Under 18, Under 16 and Under 14 divisions in both boys and girls.

After a challenging 2020 Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson is looking forward to kicking off the series again in the new year.

“I am super excited to see all the top juniors compete again in the series. Unfortunately we were not able to complete last year’s series due to COVID19 Restrictions, however I am looking forward to seeing the improvement across all surfers.”

“These events are the pathway to the Australian Junior Titles and are great experience for our surfers at some of the best breaks in Victoria.”

“The events have been an incredible stepping stone for our juniors with past champions including current World Tour surfer Nikki van Dijk and former World Tour Surfer Nic Muscroft.”

Notable surfers competing at the event including current Australian Champion Ellie Harrison (Barwon Heads), Charlie Farrer (Barwon Heads), Sarsha Pancic (Point Lonsdale), Ethan Huxtable (Jan Juc), Lucas Hickson (Rye) and Willis Droomer (Jan Juc).

Surfing Victoria Official Swell Forecaster Coastalwatch.com are forecasting some challenging conditions with onshore winds and an increasing swell across the two day event.

Surfing will begin at 8:30am on Thursday with a call being made at Gunnamatta Beach. The event is set to conclude on Friday afternoon. Keep an eye on the Surfing Victoria social media accounts for updates on starting times and locations.
