Woolworths SurfGroms 2024/25 season launch

Published on 12/09/2024

The Woolworths SurfGroms season is ready to make a splash as it kicks off this month, marking the 14th year that the SurfGroms program has been active. More than 8,000 groms, aged between 5 and 12 years, are set to participate in the program nationwide.

The learn-to-surf program is run by surf schools, with sessions after school, on weekends, and during school holidays. It is also integrated into school curriculums as part of Sport Australia’s Sporting Schools programs.

The program launch coincides with the spring school holidays when families start heading to the beach, and water safety skills become a top priority.

Surfing Australia Participation & Programs Manager Blake Whittaker said: “Surfing Australia is dedicated to educating young surfers and promoting a healthy and safe lifestyle within local communities. The SurfGroms program is at the forefront of this mission, offering children their first taste of surfing and aiming to foster a lifelong passion for the sport.”

Woolworths Group Chief Marketing Officer, Andrew Hicks said: “We’re proud to be supporting the SurfGroms program for our eighth year. The program not only creates a fun and challenging environment for young surfers, it also is an educational opportunity for those participating and their families to understand how fresh food can help fuel the best in us, not just in surfing, but in everyday life.

“We look forward to supporting Australia’s groms hit the waves through this year’s program after being inspired by watching surfing heroes Tyler Wright, Molly Picklum, Jack Robinson and Ethan Ewing at the Paris Olympics.”

Woolworths SurfGroms is also launching a national competition this year, with exciting prizes up for grabs, including NSP surfboards, signed Irukandjis t-shirts from our Olympic surfing team, and Rip Curl packs.

Woolworths SurfGroms would like to thank our program partners. Every Woolworths SurfGrom will receive a $50 Club Rip Curl voucher, Woolworths $10-off shop*, a Boardsox fin bag, a Cooee beach toy and, for a limited time, Sun & Earth Zinc.

The Woolworths SurfGroms program offers five distinct skill levels nationwide, divided into two age categories: MiniGroms (5 – 8-years-old) and SuperGroms (9 – 12-years-old). Rip Curl presents Woolworths SurfGroms, with support from Ruffie, BoardSox, NSP Surfboards, Surfers for Climate, Sun & Earth Zinc and Cooee Toys & Games.

Woolworths SurfGroms programs are available through the Surfing Australia Surf Schools Network, featuring over 70 delivery partners throughout the country. More details can be found on the program’s website at www.surfgroms.com.
