Sara Hickson and Harry Farrer claim spot at Woolworths Surfer Grom Comps National Surf Camp

Published on 16/12/2020

Sara Hickson (Mornington Peninsula) and Harry Farrer (Barwon Heads) have claimed spot at the three-day Woolworths National Surf Camp with wins today at the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp on the Surf Coast.

Day 2  of the event saw competition moved to Jan Juc due to a lack of swell at the primary location  Torquay.

The groms took advantage of the 2-foot easterly swell on offer and excellent scores were posted.

The Under 14 Boy’s division saw Harry Farrer (Barwon Heads) take the win, posting a combined heat total of 13.67 (out of a possible 20).

“It was tricky” said Farrer.

“I managed to get a couple out there. Im just stoked to win and looking forward to heading to the 3-day camp” he added.

Left hot on Farrer’s tail was Taj McPhee (Ocean Grove), who ripped into a couple nice rights, but fell short with a combined heat total of 12.50 (out of a possible 20).

Sara Hickson (Mornington Peninsula) managed to sneak away victorious in the Under 14 Girl’s division with a slender lead of 0.16. Hickson posted a near excellent score (7.33 out of a possible ten) on her way to a heat total of 11.50.

“It was fun out there” Hickson said.

“These events are so fun because we get to surf with all of our friends!”

Not far behind Hickson was Isla Huppatz (Jan Juc), who posted a 7.77 (out of a possible ten), however was unable to find a score of 3.74 to snatch the lead.

Kai Colemen (Under 10 Boy’s division) posted the highest individual wave score throughout the two days of competition – a perfect ten (out of a possible ten). Coleman was rewarded the Pics Peanut Butter Star Performer Award for the clinic of which he put on throughout his first Round 1 heat.

Both Harry Farrer and Anna Huppatz (Jan Juc) walked away with the Woolworths Fresh Wave Award, and joining them was Isla Huppatz (Jan Juc) , who was crowned as the other Pics Peanut Butter Star Performer.
