Outstanding Surfing on Day One of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp Sunshine Coast

SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Saturday 11 December 2021)

Day one of the Sunshine Coast leg for the 2021 Woolworths Surfer Grom Comps Series was held today at Dicky Beach, with 78 grommets competingin solid 3-4ft swell.

The junior stars will be putting on a show for finals day tomorrow, after an inspiring day ofsurfing was displayed across all seven divisions.

Standout performers in the U14 Boys division included Darcy Dwyer (SUNSHINE BEACH) who posted the highest heat score of the day with 15.83 (out of a possible 20.00), andMitchell Peterson (NOOSA) (14.67). 

In the U14 Girls division, Stella Green (KAWANA) put on a stellar performance scoring a two-wave total of 13.67 in her first heat. Another standout performer in the division was Kauri Heuston-Connor (REEDY CREEK) (11.00) who made her way out of a close heat.

Finals day will be kicking off at 7:30am tomorrow morning, with the event likely to be at the same location, but please call the event hotline in the morning to confirm.

About the 2021 Woolworths Surfer Grom Comp Series

Regarded as one of the major steppingstones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia over summer.

As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Final Surf Camp, (1-day coaching clinic, two days of competition and heat analysis coaching) at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC). For the South Australian, Victorian and Tasmanian events, the Woolworths Surf Camp prize will be awarded to the highest place Under-14 Boy and Girl who reside in that respective state.
