Surfing Australia has today announced the return of the Australian Interschools Surfing Championships presented by Breaka for 2026. Following perfect conditions at Kirra Beach for this year’s event, the competition will once again return to the Gold Coast, running from Wednesday 13 May to Friday 15 May.
As the nation’s largest school surfing event, more than one hundred high school teams and over 400 surfers from all around the country are expected to battle it out for national bragging rights as Australia’s best surfing school.
Utilising the tag-team format made famous by the iconic Australian Boardriders Battle series, the event brings strong team camaraderie and an electric atmosphere. In 2026, we can expect plenty of noise from the beach as surfers push the standard of school surfing to new heights.
Surfing Australia Head of Sport Luke Madden is excited to see schools all over the nation come together again in 2026:

The Australian Interschools Surfing Championships presented by Breaka is open to all secondary schools – government, Catholic, and independent – across the nation, with divisions for boys and girls from Year 7 to 12. As Australia’s premier school surfing event, it showcases the nation’s next generation of surfing superstars.
