Surfing Australia’s Talent UNLSHD program has set the tone for the future of women’s surfing, following the successful delivery of its inaugural national camp held from February 23–26 at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.
Designed to identify, nurture, and develop the next generation of Australian female surfing talent, while building a strong and sustainable female national coaching network that empowers and supports their long-term success, Talent UNLSHD is a nationally aligned initiative with long-term impact at its core.
Bringing together 16 of the country’s top emerging female surfers for an intensive four-day camp, the program delivered a high-performance environment focused on technical refinement, tactical awareness, physical preparation, and performance mindset. More than just a camp, it marked a significant step in creating a connected and purposeful national pathway for female athletes.
Delivered in collaboration with Surfing Australia’s State Bodies, Talent UNLSHD ensures talent identification and development can occur at both regional and national levels. The program creates a unified structure that supports athletes regardless of location, aligning development opportunities across the country.

From Camps to Strike Missions
At a national level, 18 athletes were invited to attend two fully funded National Development Camps, with 16 athletes attending the first camp in February. These camps focus on peer learning, high-performance coaching, and competition readiness.
From this group, three surfers progressed into Stage 2 opportunities in 2026, joining five Under 18 Categorised athletes to further their development. This next phase targets advanced progression in key performance areas, including barrel riding and aerial surfing.
A National Footprint
Talent UNLSHD extends beyond the national program, with a strong state-based delivery model activating across 14 key regions nationwide, from the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast to Margaret River and Trigg Beach.
Through structured coaching sessions, camps, and talent identification processes, each State Body supports its top emerging surfers while contributing to a unified national pathway.
The program operates across three tiers:
Enhance — supporting regional development for athletes and coaches
Accelerate — preparing athletes for national competition and progression
Elevate — focusing on the country’s top prospects through camps and strike missions
More Than Athletes
A defining pillar of Talent UNLSHD is its investment in coaching.
Female coaches across the country are identified and developed through Individual Coach Development Plans, with opportunities to progress into national camps and high-performance environments. The objective is to build a coaching network that evolves alongside the athletes it supports.
“We’ve got so many female coaches down here, it’s amazing to see. Talent UNLSHD opens the opportunity for women to thrive in these spaces. The energy is unmatched!”
– Talent UNLSHD coach and former Championship Tour surfer, India Robinson.
With its first national camp complete, Talent UNLSHD has already delivered on its intent: creating an environment where the next generation of Australian female surfers can train, connect, and accelerate together.
