Competition gets underway at the Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles

Published on 26/11/2023

The Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles are underway at Phillip Island, Victoria.

An Opening Ceremony was held  yesterday afternoon, with competition starting today.

Contest Director, Liam Robertson said: “We’re stoked to kick off the Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles at Cape Woolamai on Phillip Island this morning. There is 3-4ft of increasing swell and moderate onshore winds today with tomorrow expecting to have similar swell and lighter winds. The sand banks are in excellent condition and the surfing we have seen so far has been amazing. Good luck to all the competitors this week and we look forward to crowning 2023 Australian Champions.”

Ocean Lancaster (Merewether, NSW) said he was super excited to return to Philip island and compete in one of the biggest competitions of the year.

“All the boys have being ripping lately, so there’s going so be some insanely hard competition. I managed to get the title last year so I have the opportunity to have a good crack at backing it up. Winning this title again would mean that I get to represent Australia in the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, which is my goal for this year. I can’t wait for the comp to start, and can’t wait to give it a red-hot crack.”

Eliza Richardson (Sunshine Beach, QLD), who won the U14 Girls last year, said: “I’m excited to be at Phillip Island, a truly amazing venue, and I’m looking forward to defending my title and catching up and surfing with friends from across Australia.”
