Epic conditions on finals day of Woolworths Victorian Junior Titles, Round 2

Published on 29/03/2021

Competition resumed at Corner’s (13th Beach) for finals day of the Woolworths Victorian Junior Titles in epic 2-3 foot conditions & light onshore winds all day. The weather was fine, and there were nice running right handers on offer all day.

Willis Droomer (Jan Juc) walked away with a win in the 16 Boys division, posting an excellent 9.57 & 8.77 (out of a possible ten) for a series of incredible turns on the long running rights.

“The rights were good and I’m glad to get the win” Droomer said

Droomer had the rest of the field in a combination situation (when all other competitors need two new scoring rides) after his third ride and stayed in that position for the rest of the final.

Finishing in second was Lucas Hickson (Rye) on 14.40 points. Willem Watson (Barwon Heads) and Jack Bassett (Barwon Heads) finishing in third and fourth respectively.

Isla Huppatz (Jan Juc) took out the 16 Girls division, with smart surfing under pressure. Huppatz was ripping, posting both a 5.83 & 7.43 ending up with a combined heat total of 13.26.

“The conditions were good all day” Said Huppatz

“The waves were really fun” She added

Not far behind Huppatz was Eva Bassed (Sandy Point), who only required a 6.6 to get into the lead.

Bassed’s highest wave score was a 6.67, however she was unable to find another wave to back it up as the heat drew to a close. Sarsha Pancic (Blairgowrie) and Sarah Sueren (Inverloch) finished in third and fourth respectively.

Other round winners include Ethan Huxtable (Jan Juc, Under 18 Boys), Mia Huppatz (Jan Juc, Under 18 Girls), Sara Hickson (Rye, Under 14 Girls) & Jarvis Barrow (Jan Juc, Under 14 Boys).
