Surfing Victoria are pleased to announce India Robinson (Jan Juc) and Tully Wylie (Jan Juc) have be crowned Victorian Open champions at URBNSURF in a surf-off.
Due to COVID restrictions, the top 9 surfers in both Men and Women battled it out in a 2 hour shoot out at the URBNSURF Wave Park in Tullamarine.
Competitors were selected via results in the Phillip Island Victorian Open Round held in April as well as 3 wildcards selected by application.
Each competitor was given 2 hours free surf at URBNSURF with everyone of their waves filmed. They were then later judged and every competitor was given a score for their best Left and Right on both Turn and Barrel settings – leading to a total score out of 40.
Both surfers have now proven their abilities in the man-made waves at URBNSURF Melbourne after claiming the 2020 Melbourne Pool Party – the first Australian wave pool event.
“I’m stoked to take out the Victorian state title this year,” said Wylie. “Its been a weird year, but it was super fun to get to surf at the pool for 2 hours and show your surfing in different wave settings.”
“That was such a fun night,” said Robinson.” It’s amazing to claim the Open State Title for the first time and to do it in a surf-off at URBNSURF makes it even more memorable!”
