After months of supercharged online entries, the third season of the Hyundai She’s Electric online competition wrapped up on the 7th of December, 2024.
The top five online entrants were invited to attend a three-day camp at the Hyundai Surfing Australia High Performance Centre, culminating in a Final Five-style surf-off. In tricky conditions, India Robinson surfed her way from Number 3, defeating Ruby Berry and Willow Hardy before facing Piper Harrison in the final.
India, who was presented with her trophy at the Australian Surfing Awards, said she was aiming to make it back on Tour and thanked Hyundai for their support.
“To have Hyundai’s support in giving back to females, not just on the competition side, but by being involved and offering awards to girls who are simply participating, is really special. I think it’s going to keep growing our community and the surf industry.”
We caught up with India following the Awards to hear more about the Hyundai She’s Electric camp and her goals for 2025.
“I’m really happy to get the win, it’s been a few months since I competed, so this was a good little test for me to see where I’m at and start getting ready for a big season ahead,” Robinson said.
“The camp was heaps of fun, being able to reconnect with some of my best mates I’ve competed against since I was 12 (Piper and Alysse) was so good, and then seeing how much the young girls (Willow and Ruby) are progressing was really cool to see. We all were able to push one another but also encourage each other, and that’s what I love about the She’s Electric platform, seeing new girls each week getting involved and posting videos of them surfing and everyone encouraging them along the way. It’s so powerful!
“The final surf-off was pretty funny. The wind came up, waves kind of stopped breaking, and I was in the final against my best friend, so we both just paddled out and tried to make the most of it. Piper got a good wave, and I managed to find a few little lefts. When we came in, we had no idea who won. They didn’t tell us until later that night at the awards, so pretty much all day, me and Piper were just saying to each other, “Nah, you won it haha.”
