Jack Robinson Has Provisionally Qualified for Surfing at Paris 2024

Published on 16/08/2023

CASUARINA, NSW (August 16, 2023): Based on 2023 World Surf League rankings and competition results at Tahiti where Jack has progressed through to the Quarter Finals, Jack Robinson has secured the World Surf League ranking requirement for qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Australian surfers can qualify for the Games by finishing as one of the top 2 Australian surfers in the top 8 (women’s) or top 10 (men’s) in the 2023 WSL rankings, and by attending all required qualification events under the ISA Paris 2024 qualification system.

There is a further chance to qualify additional athletes at the 2024 ISA World Surfing Games.

In July 2024, Surfing Australia will nominate those athletes who have satisfied the Surfing Australia Paris 2024 nomination criteria to the Australian Olympic Committee for selection to the Irukandjis Team.

Jack has had a strong start to the 2023 tour winning the Pipe Masters, but suffered a knee injury midway through the season. He has fought his way back and has now guaranteed a finish in the top 10 on the 2023 WSL Rankings, therefore earning a provisional place to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“I had some really good results, then it was hard to find the form through those few events. But I had to stick with it, I couldn’t stop because otherwise, I couldn’t have gotten any points” Jack told the WSL. “Yeah, really happy I secured that”

Kate Wilcomes, Surfing Australia National High Performance Director said:
“Congratulations Jack! This year has been a rollercoaster for him with a strong start to the year and now a finish that provisionally qualifies him for the Olympics really shows exceptional talent and hard work. Jack’s presence at the Games in 2024 will intimidate many other athletes and countries. We can’t wait to support him and see him in the Green and Gold!”

Surfing made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, where Owen Wright won the bronze medal for Australia.

A big thank you to the Australian Institute of Sport and the Australian Olympic Committee for their support throughout this Olympic campaign.
