Lifestyle Destination Harvey Norman Partner With Surfing Australia to Support Grassroots Surfing

Published on 03/08/2022

Surfing Australia is excited to announce a new partnership with Harvey Norman through the 2022/2023 season as the Official Lifestyle Partner of Surfing Australia. The partnership will see Harvey Norman compliment their support of surfing to encompass the true heartland of the sport – Boardrider clubs around Australia, as well as celebrating the pioneering women of surfing and providing a pathway for future female stars.

Harvey Norman will kick off the partnership as a Supporting Partner of Australia’s biggest and most prestigious grassroots surfing event, The Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle. The event begins on the Gold Coast on September 3rd, 2022 and then travels around the country throughout the year, culminating in the Grand Final in February 2023 where we crown the best Boardrider Club in Australia. Harvey Norman will own the “Team Harvey Junior” division, as well as creating on-site consumer activations across the series.

They will also champion female surfers through a new Mentoring Camp developed with seven times World Champion and Surfing Australia’s Chair, Layne Beachley. The Camp will bring together some of Australia’s most promising female rising stars to experience mentoring, coaching and media training from some of Australia’s best experts. Harvey Norman will cement their support of female surfing through sponsorship of the prestigious “Female Surfer of the Year Award” at the 2023 Australian Surfing Awards Incorporating the Hall of Fame.

Surfing Australia Head of Partnerships, Clarissa Pike said “Harvey Norman has a long history of supporting Aussie sport and athletes. They are truly passionate about sport development and have a strong track record of supporting women across all aspects of sport, from grassroots to the elite. We’re beyond thrilled to have them on board. They are a dream partner and very aligned to Surfing Australia’s core values. Not only are they one of the most trusted brands in Australia, but they are also committed to being more than just a logo sponsor; Every touchpoint reflects their objectives and they work hard to find authentic integration opportunities that make a tangible difference to the sport.”

Harvey Norman General Manager Sponsorships, Sam Waters said, “Surfing Australia represents 215 Boardrider Clubs and over 120 Surf Schools nationwide. This is the heartland of Australian surfing. For over 20 years, Harvey Norman has invested and supported Australian women in sport and sport at the grassroots – creating opportunities and development pathways. Harvey Norman is proud to announce the new partnership with Australia’s biggest grassroots surfing event, ‘The Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle’ and support of the ‘Female Surfer of the Year award’. It is the perfect fit.”

Surfing Australia Chair Layne Beachley said “Surfing Australia are excited to share the stoke with Harvey Norman as we launch into our next Olympic cycle, Paris 2024.
