Mikey Wright Makes Heroic Rescue On The North Shore

Published on 05/01/2021

Story via WSL:

As surfers, from time to time we find ourselves on the front lines of emergency situations in the ocean. Such was the case earlier this week when Mikey Wright responded to a woman in distress on the North Shore.

Swept off the beach at the Keiki Shorebreak, Wright, in a video posted to his Instagram account, is seen enjoying some downtime in a yard overlooking the ocean when suddenly a bystander is swept away by the large waves which have been hitting the North Shore in recent days.

Springing into action, Wright sprints down to the beach and dives into the water with little regard for his own safety. Carried down the beach by the swift current, Wright is able to make contact with the victim and eventually pull her to safety.

“Amazing rescue by @mikeywright69 and the public,” shared the North Shore Lifeguard Association on Instagram. “This lady is so lucky to be alive. The North Shore surf can sweep up and grab you at any time. Please be careful! Mahalo Mikey and friends for jumping in!”
