Quarterfinalists decided at the Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles

Published on 28/11/2023

The Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles continued today in clean 3ft waves and classic Cape Woolamai conditions. Quarterfinalists have been decided in both the men’s and women’s U18 and U16 age divisions.

Ziggy Mackenzie (QLD) dropped the highest single wave score of the event so far in U16 Women’s, with an excellent 9.58 ride (out of a possible 10), securing her heat win with a combined total of 17.08.

Mia Jacobs (WA) also won her heat, earning her spot in the quarterfinals.

Jacobs said: “I really love competing in the Australian titles. It’s a really fun competition. It has been good to surf somewhere different. Getting good lefts and rights. My goal is to surf well but also have fun. Surf my best, I guess.”

Contest Director, Liam Robertson said: “It was a great day at Cape Woolamai. We saw some fantastic surfing across all divisions. The surfing on offer has been excellent and really shows the depth of talent within Australian surfing.”

The schools divisions have also kicked off, with finalists decided in the U16 & U19 Boys Allstars and U16 & U19 Girls Allstars as well as the U19 Boys and U19 Girls MR Shield.

Wild weather is forecast for the coming days, with organisers monitoring conditions to ensure the best possible waves for competitors.
