Scarborough Boardriders win the Australian Boardriders Battle – South Qualifier at Kiama

Scarborough Boardriders has taken out the Australian Boardriders Battle South NSW regional qualifier at Kiama, following a giant day of action-packed heats on Saturday in clean 2ft playful peaks.

The winning crew from Scarborough Boardriders was comprised of Mannix Squiers, Fin Mclaren, Will Clarke, Shyla Short and Nic Squiers.

Scarborough’s finest and masters surfer, Nic Squires, also took home the Oakley Prize Award which recognises the stand out surfer of the event. Nic, along with his son Mannix (junior surfer) are no strangers to the world of competitive surfing and were able to use their experience to lead their team to victory.

Scarborough, Maroubra United, Cronulla Sharks, Elouera, Ulladulla and Jones Beach all have now qualified for the National final, which will be held on the 9th and 10th of March 2024 in Burleigh Heads, QLD.

Other awards included the Letan breakthrough prize awarded to Joey Sear (Elouera Boardriders Club) for pushing the limits, and the Jim Beam Club Spirit award to Jones Beach Boardriders (JBB) for great sportsmanship.

Clubs that competed included Maroubra United, Werri, Sandon Point, Sapphire Coast, Dalmeny, Jones, Elouera, Culburra, Broulee, Cronulla, Scarborough, Ulladulla, Bondi, Malua Bay and Woonona.

About the Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle
The Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle is Australia’s biggest grassroots boardrider event and involves more than 70 of Australia’s best boardrider clubs. Taking place across eight state qualifying rounds, only 32 clubs will come together at the Grand Final to battle it out to become series 11 Australian Champions.
