Surfing Australia launches the ‘She’s Electric’ podcast

Published on 07/11/2024

We’re excited to announce the launch of the She’s Electric podcast presented by Hyundai that celebrates the stories and successes of women leading the way in surfing. Hosted by Jesse Starling, each episode invites fans into the lives of the sport’s most inspiring women, as they share their journeys, challenges, and triumphs in an industry that’s traditionally been male-dominated.

And we’re kicking things off with a bang – Olympian, WSL World No.5, and Hyundai ambassador Molly Picklum joins Jesse for Episode 1. Known for her fierce competitive spirit and boundary-pushing surfing, Molly, affectionately known as “Pickles,” is the perfect guest to launch the series.

In Episode 1: Molly Picklum

Jesse dives beneath the surface with Molly in this debut episode, exploring the moments that shaped her journey from a cheeky, competitive grom to a world-class athlete. Fans will hear about her childhood, where she threw herself into any sport she could, and the pivotal moment that changed everything: receiving the Layne Beachley ‘Rising Star Award’ at the Hyundai High Performance Centre in 2020. It was here that Molly’s potential became undeniable, setting her on a focused path toward a professional surfing career.

Molly’s story is one of grit, determination, and relentless ambition. After qualifying for the 2024 Olympics and ranking in the Top 5 on the Championship Tour two years in a row, she’s proved time and again that she’s here to stay at the top. But, in the ‘She’s Electric’ podcast, Molly lets us see the side of her that’s still very much the same competitive, fun-loving kid at heart – the grom who never shies away from a challenge.

Raw, real, and unfiltered conversations

With the She’s Electric podcast, fans can expect real and raw conversations that reveal the heart and hustle behind surfing’s leading ladies. Each episode will delve into the defining moments of these athletes’ lives – from the childhood dreams that ignited their passion for the ocean, to the struggles they’ve faced and overcome in their quest for success.

As Jesse Starling shares her own camaraderie with each guest, these episodes go beyond traditional interviews. They uncover the personal stories, insights, and deep reflections that make each of these women not just surfers, but pioneers and role models for the next generation.

With new episodes launching every Wednesday, you won’t want to miss the She’s Electric podcast. Up next, we’re thrilled to welcome seven-time World Champion and Surfing Australia Patron, Layne Beachley, as she shares her journey and insights in the world of surfing.
