The Australian SUP Titles Returns to Phillip Island October 4-9 2022

Published on 12/09/2022

Phillip Island, Victoria will host the Australian Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Titles between 4th – 9th October 2022 in the first Australian Championships for the sport since 2019.

More than 200 competitors are expected to represent their state’s across the disciplines of SUP Surfing, SUP & Prone Marathon Racing (20km), and SUP & Prone Technical Racing (between 4-8km of several laps in and out through the surf).

The prestigious Phillip Island location has over twenty recognised beach, reef and point breaks that will provide both challenging paddling conditions and a truly unique event experience for each discipline.

James Casey is a trailblazer in the sport and a dynamic waterman across all surf disciplines. As the defending champion of the 10-foot longboard event, he’s looking forward to returning to Phillip Island and reconnecting with the Australian SUP community.

“The SUP community is very welcoming, everyone is your mate and the Australian Titles is a great event that brings us together. It’s the chance to catch up with a good crew and compete,” said Casey.

“I’m excited to get back into the power of the Victorian surf. I won my first Australian Title at Phillip Island in 2019. It’s very raw and there’s plenty of power in the waves, which I love. It’s not somewhere I go often but I love it and it’s an amazing place to bring the family too,” he said.

Surfing Australia CEO Chris Mater said he’s looking forward to seeing the country’s best SUP athletes get back to business at Phillip Island on the beautiful Bass Coast.

“We have some of the best SUP athletes in the world,” said Mater.

“The Australian Titles is always an incredible event because we see their talent and progression really come to the fore.

“SUP Surfing and racing has so much room to grow as a sport and we’re excited that we can continue to provide this pathway and potential for past and future champions,” he said.

The Australian SUP Championships divisions include:
