SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (9th December 2021) -Queensland’s junior surf stars will be battling it out on the Sunshine Coast this weekend for Event 10 of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp.
Event 10 is the final event in the series before the National Final at the end of the month. The grommets will be giving it their best efforts for the final chance of qualifying, from under 8 mixed parent-assist through to the under 14 Boys and Girls divisions.
The Under 14 Boys Division will be one not to miss, with top seed Caden Francis (PALM BEACH) sure to get your attention.
“I’m super excited to be able to compete on the Sunny Coast, it’s always a fun weekend and feels like it starts summer for us groms,” said Caden. “It’s going to be fun to compete with my mates, with us all getting a chance to win and qualify for the National Final.”
In the Under 14 Girls Division, keep your eyes on Charli Hately (CURRUMBIN) who is the top seed, and Meika Loche (PALM BEACH) who will be making every effort to join Charli, who has already qualified, at the National Finals.
“I’m excited and nervous for the competition this weekend, as the girls competing are really good surfers and absolutely rip,” Meika said. “Conditions look challenging with smaller waves, but Coolum and the other Sunny Coast beaches always provide fun waves!”
Surfing Queensland CEO, Adam Yates, is excited for the final qualifying event in the series to be underway.
“The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp is a fantastic series for our young surfers. The last event in the series is always exciting, as the kids know this is their last chance to qualify for the National Finals. We’re pumped to be hosting it and to watch them showcase their talent.”
