THE WOOLWORTHS SURFER GROMS COMPS HEADS TO WEST OZ FOR EVENT # 7 OF THE NATIONWIDE SERIES

Published on 04/11/2020

TRIGG BEACH WA/AUS (Wednesday 4th November 2020) – Excitement is building on beaches right across Western Australia, as the seventh event of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps prepares to cross the Nullarbor and touchdown on Perth’s metropolitan beaches this weekend.

The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps is the only Australian event series catering for the increasing number of the country’s ‘micro-groms’, with boys and girls preparing to compete in Under-8, Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14 divisions. After events in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, it’s now WA grommets turn to compete in this speciality event.

As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 Boys’ and Girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Final Surf Camp, (1-day coaching clinic, 2 days of competition and event coaching) at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC).

Over 80 of WA’s newest generation of surfing stars are set to compete, with an impressive group of talent competing for their chance to head away to the Surfing Australia HPC.

Jack Lacey (Duncraig), Okie Fraser (Margaret River), Maverick Wilson (Dunsborough), Remy North (Yallingup) and Cruz Sheridan (Margaret River), who will all headline the blue-ribbon Under 14 Boys division. While, Isi Campbell (Denmark), Olive Hardy (Margaret River), Ruby Berry (Augusta) and Kaleisha Launders (Margaret River) will be ones to keep an eye on in the Under 14 Girls division.

“The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps are great for our young surfers,” said Surfing WA High Performance Coach Mark Clift. “The unique format means everyone grom gets at least two surfs and there’s a real emphasis on having fun and participating. It’s an exciting mix of bonafide rippers and well as some kids who could be competing for the very first time which is always exciting.”

Great grommet conditions are forecast this weekend with Trigg Beach set to be overrun by frothing grommets and their families, with sunny skies and small swells forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.

The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps Series has helped to launch the careers of many of Australia’s most promising junior surfers with that trend set to continue this weekend.
