Western Australia’s longest-running and most prestigious inter-club surfing competition, The Surf Boardroom Surf League is set to splash down on Scarborough Beach this Saturday with six of WA’s best boardriding clubs set to compete.

Surf League first ran back in 1986 and ever since it has been a breeding ground for stoke and excitement amongst WA boardriders clubs who’ll converge to compete for over $5,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs.

The Surf Boardroom Surf League embodies what Australian sport is all about; mateship, team spirit, loyalty and unbelievable camaraderie. Surf League’s unique competition format will see clubs nominate their six strongest surfers (4 x open age surfers, 1 x Over-35 master, and 1 x Under-18 junior), with each surfer’s best two scores added together for an overall team total.

2020 celebrates the 28th year that The Surf Boardroom will be supporting this iconic event that has become a rite of passage for many of WA’s best and most aspiring surfers. Since 1992 The Surf Boardroom have provided the opportunity for mate to verse mate and club to verse club.

“The Surf League has genuine history here in WA and the event continues to attract some of WA’s best surfers as well as our best boardriding clubs to Scarborough Beach each and every year,” said The Surf Boardroom’s Geoff Councell. “This is the 28th consecutive year that the Surf Boardroom has supported Surf League and we’re excited to see it included as part of the Groundswell Festival once again. I wish all our clubs the best of luck and look forward to watching the final.”

Defending event champions Margaret River will take on teams from Surf Beach, Scarborough, Trigg Point, City Beach and Yallingup, who’ll all benefit from a positive weekend surf forecast.

“Boarding clubs are a great part of the surfing culture here in Australia,” said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. “Surfing is such an individual sport and events like the Surf League offer such a different vibe it’s always exciting to watch. Some of WA’s very best surfers will be competing side by side and flying the flag for their local club and it’s going to be an epic weekend.”

Once again The Surf Boardroom Surf League will combine with WA’s most loved youth surf, skate and street event, the Drug Aware Groundswell Festival, which is returning to Scarborough for its 7th instalment. Across two massive days – October 3 & 4 – Scarborough Beach and surrounds will see an action-packed weekend full of surf, skate and 3×3 basketball comps, BMX bowl comps and stunt demos, DJs, street art, food trucks, markets and loads of free activities.

A solid groundswell and SE winds are set to provide a great setting with heats expected to kick off at 8am, with finals commencing around 12pm.
