Published on 10/12/2023

The emerging junior surfers from Queensland took on the substantial waves at Coolum Beach for the concluding event in the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series. The young surfers encountered Cyclone Jasper, which brought upon challenging conditions for the finals, ushering in 3-4ft of northerly swell.

Event 10 of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series delivered action-packed surfing, from the best juniors around the country.

Savannah Rielly won the Under 14 Girls final with a heat total of 15.76 (out of a possible 20), securing her spot in the National final at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC). While her brother, Cooper Rielly, finished first in the Under 14 Boys final.

The Rielly siblings both commented on how enjoyable the event was and thanked the supporting partners and their sponsors.

“It was a great event and I am looking forward to the coaching clinic and training at the HPC,” Savannah Rielly said.

“I want to thank my parents, my friends and sponsors, as well as Surfing Australia and the team at Surfing Queensland for the awesome event! Keen for the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps next year,” Cooper Rielly added.

The day commenced with the Under 10 Girls, as heat winner Kobi Lana Partridge set the tone for finals day by scoring an excellent 9.43 (out of a possible 10) on her first wave. The Under 10 Boys matched the vibe with Flynn Swierczewski scoring a 9.50 in the fourth heat of the morning.

The finals started with Austin Reynolds securing victory in the Under 8 Boys & Girls Mixed division. Eliana Tabacaru then got the win against Kobi Lana Partridge in the Under 10 Girls final. The Under 10 Boys saw Flynn Swierczewski finish in first place in a close and fierce competition.

In the Under 12 Girls, Navah Holmes won with a significant lead and Sunny Canina followed suit in the Under 12 Boys final with a dominating performance.

Flynn Swierczewski won the “Le Breakthrough” award on behalf of Le Tan, for surfing without a parent in the Under 8 Parent-assist division.

The final event of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps in the Sunshine Coast was the perfect finale to an exhilarating 2023 series.
