YETI Australian Junior Surfing Titles Kick Off with an Opening Ceremony

Published on 24/11/2024

Some of the nation’s best young surfers have descended on Wollongong, New South Wales for the YETI Australian Junior Surfing Titles.

More than 250 surfers are set to compete over seven days, with an opening ceremony kicking off the event.

The YETI Australian Junior Surfing Titles are the final major counting event on the Surfing Australia National Junior Series, awarding 12,000 points to every age division winner and providing a chance to represent the Irukandjis Team at the 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.

Every winner will also join a prestigious honour roll alongside current and former world Tour competitors, including Stephanie Gilmore, Molly Picklum, Sally Fitzgibbons, Laura Enever, Tyler Wright, Nikki Van Dijk, Coco Cairns, Owen Wright,  Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning and Reef Heazlewood.

Contest Director Jeremy Barnett said: “The opening ceremony was the bringing together of the best surfers from across the nation. We celebrate this coming together with a mixing of the sands from each of the competing states, symbolising unification under the Surfing Australia banner.”

Barnett said he was looking forward to the start of competition tomorrow.

“This competition is a stepping stone to the World ISA Titles, providing a pathway to the Olympic podium.

“The forecast for tomorrow is looking favourable for the prime location of Woonona Beach. The expected conditions will be a small nor’east swell with a northeast wind, and a beautiful 27-degrees.”

This year, the finals action will be broadcast live on Surfing Australia’s YouTube channel. Watch live on:
