‘Hyundai She’s Electric’ Returns as Online Competition

Surfing Australia is thrilled to announce the return of ‘Hyundai She’s Electric’. Starting on the 9th of October and running until the 15th of December, the second season will once again recognise and amplify rising female surfers on a national scale.

This year the competition has expanded so more Australian female surfers can enter. The competition is open to all females aged 14 years and over and we are encouraging female members of Surfing Australia affiliated boardriders clubs to get involved.

The competition also has a new online format. Eligible shortboard surfers simply upload their surfing videos to a public platform, and each week Surfing Australia’s expert team of judges, led by Head Judge of Olympic Surfing for Tokyo, Glen Elliott will review the clips creating a Hyundai She’s Electric leaderboard to rank the athletes. This leaderboard aims to give female surfers a profile, unearthing breakout talent and creating a pathway to the top – inspiring the next generation of female surfers.

The top five athletes on the ‘Hyundai She’s Electric’ leaderboard at the end of the competition window will be invited to the Hyundai Surfing Australia High Performance Centre for a surf camp that includes three-days of intensive training, surf analysis from some of Australia’s top surf coaches, surf-specific strength and conditioning sessions and workshops run by surfing icons and pioneers of women’s surfing. In addition, the second to fifth placed athletes take home $1000 each while the winner receives $5000 and a VIP experience at the Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle Grand Final with pro-surfer and big wave charger Laura Enever.

The total prize pool is over $35,000 and includes the newly created ‘Bright Spark’ award with weekly winners to receive a Go Pro 11.

About the Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle
The Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle is Australia’s biggest grassroots boardriders event and involves more than 70 of Australia’s best boardrider clubs. Taking place across eight state qualifying rounds, 32 clubs will come together at the grand final to battle it out to become the 2023/24 Australian champions.

Hyundai truly appreciates that boardrider clubs are the lifeblood of Australian surfing. For many young boardriders, this series is the first taste of competitive surfing and the beginning of what for some is a lifelong journey.
